Today is our second day back to school and we're slowly getting back in the groove. It is a week of appointments, so we won't really get in the groove until next week.
1. I am thankful for our mechanic. Not only is he a good Christian man we can fully trust with our vehicles, but he comes to our house to fix the car! He parks his van [aka mobile shop] in our driveway and goes to work. I love that I can trust him to be honest with me even though I know nothing about cars. Not all mechanics are so trustworthy with people who know nothing about cars.
2. I am thankful our mechanic is in remission. Between his fixing our car in April and now in January, he had cancer and underwent the treatment necessary. It is so awesome to see this man back to work and healthy.
3. I am thankful my son's 17th birthday [last Thursday] was perfect in his opinion. He didn't decide what he wanted to do until that day after I brought it up. As he left "The Hobbit" with Dad, he was effusive about the awesome wonderful day it was. I was stressed it wouldn't be good because we couldn't get him to plan any piece of it, and I am thankful it worked out for him.
4. I am so thankful we've made it to 17 with my husband alive. DS was only 7 when DH got sick with congestive heart failure. The child is technically my stepson, and so for years I lived with the additional dread/stress of having to fight his birth-mother for custody on top of losing my husband. Not only is my husband healthier than he's been in a decade, but my son is old enough that she is no longer a threat. I am so very thankful my fears on this front never came into play and that we are safe from losing custody.
5. I am thankful that with the end of the 1st semester looming on the 29th and 5 more months until graduation, my son can't fathom quitting. It's completely foreign to him. His education has been a long rough journey for us both, and I am very thankful he's pushing ahead even with hurdles in front of him. This is a child who often looks at a task, decides it's too hard and doesn't make an effort. I am very thankful that general approach is not part of his thinking for graduation.
6. I am thankful for a week of calorie counting under my belt. I am thankful I've stuck with my plan for a week. I am thankful for the exercise I've been able to fit in; it's not every day but it's been there. I am thankful my efforts have spurred my husband to make his own efforts. Calorie counting is a pain when you cook everything from scratch, but we've done it successfully for a week.
7. I am thankful that with a week of appointments, I only have to deal with today's. I am thankful for the car which will carry my family to the appointments. I am thankful my husband is well enough to be back at work and to run errands. I still carry so much of the family load because he is not up to full strength, and some times I get buried beneath that load. But the reality is my husband can do more than he could 4,6,10 months ago and I need to stop and remember that when I'm feeling buried.

Wow, can I relate to most of these! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWho is your mechanic? We need one.
I have a child who hates school. Today he is working on his English alone and being self motivated! What a praise! I love homeschooling.

ReplyDeleteWe took it very slow getting back to school this week. It was a good thing too--this mama had a hard time getting back into things!
I hope your weekend is a good one.
